With filming well into its second month the S2 cast is starting to fill out. Announced over the last couple of weeks the following characters have been cast.
Oona Chaplin – granddaughter of Charlie – has been cast as Jayne Westerling. Jayne is a character brought forward from the third book – A Storm of Swords – and is integral to Robb Stark’s storyline going into season three. The producers revealed that some elements of the third book would appear in S2.
Forbes KB has been cast as Black Loren. Black Loren is one of the Ironborn loyal to House Greyjoy. An accomplished fighter and sailor. Along with Theon, Asha (now renamed Yara) and Balon he will probably close out the speaking parts for characters from the Iron Islands. It is thought Balon’s brothers – Aeron and Victorian – will be held back until S3.
Laura Pradelska has been cast as Quaithe. Quaithe is a mysterious figure who appears to Daenerys in dreams and vision, leaving her with riddles and prophecies of her journey ahead. In the books Qauithe’s features are concealed behind a mask, it is unknown if the character on screen will be seen that way.
Patrick Malahide has been cast as Lord Balon Greyjoy. Balon is father to Theon and Asha/Yara and Lord of the Iron Islands. He is one of the five Kings after proclaiming himself king of the Iron Islands and later the North, bringing him into conflict with Robb Stark. He has a small but important role in the second book.
Daniel Portman has been cast as Podrick Payne. Podrick – known as Pod – is a fan favorite character. He appears in the first book when he is assigned as Tyrion’s squire, he never appeared in S1 though. Pod travels to Kings Landing with Tyrion and has an important role to play during the Battle of the Blackwater.
Ian Hanmore has been cast as Pyat Pree. Pyat Pree is a warlock of Qarth and allies himself with Daenerys but has ulterior motives – involving her dragons.
